Last week, we reviewed a little bit on estimating fractions. When we estimate them, we look to see if the fraction is closest to 0, 1/2, or 1 whole. These are the only three items we estimate fractions to, and the way we do it is compare the numerator to the denominator. If the numerator is about half of the denominator, we would estimate it to 1/2. If the numerator is almost zero compared to the denominator or almost all of the denominator, we would estimate the fraction to either zero or 1 whole. Later this week, we will look at finding common multiples, especially least common multiples, and then we will practice finding common denominators of fractions.
